The high-end graphics card market has
really heated up lately with ATI and NVIDIA battling for the
performance crown. That doesn't mean the rest of the market
has been forgotten. Today we will be looking at one of the
latest ATI cards to enter the market, the HD4650. The good
folks over at Sapphire have provided not just your everyday HD 4650,
they make an Overclock Edition. With a name like that I just
had to see what this sub $70 card can do.

The packaging for the HD4650 is packed with tantalizing features and
the now familiar "Prepare to Dominate" slogan. This same
packaging is used for the vanilla version so make sure you check for
the Overclock Edition stickler or the tell tale GDDR3. Thanks
to the inclusion of HDMI support across all the HD Radeon cards, the
4650 is ready to do double duty as a passable 7.1 sound card for
your home theater or gaming builds. And in a pinch, you can
use Crossfire X to combine cards for increased performance as your
budget allows.
Specifications:
I/O Output: Dual DL-DVI+HDMI+VGA
Core Clock: 600 MHz & 320 Stream Processors
Memory Clock: 700MHz, 1400 Mbps.
PCI Express 2.0 x16 bus interface
512MB /128bit GDDR3 memory interface
Single Slot Active Cooler
Native HDMI support
7.1 Audio Channel Support
Microsoft® DirectX® 10.1 support
Shader Model 4.1 & Native Hardware Cross Fire support

The HD 4650 measures in at just 6.75 " deep
making it one of the smaller cards this generation.
The Overclock Edition means Sapphire has pushed the core clock to 650
MHz as opposed to the reference 600
MHz and the memory to 900 MHz. Sapphire has chosen to go with a reference styled cooler
nicely echoing the box design. For memory we have 512 megs of Hyanix GDDR3
as part of the Overclock Edition package,
the reference design's DDR2 can be found in the standard Sapphire HD
4650 for a few dollars less. Sapphire also offers the HD 4650 reference design with 1
GB of DDR2.
