SUPER TALENT 2GB DDR2-800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

With AMD's shift to the AM2 architecture, DDR2 is now the most prevalent desktop memory solution. While some gladly accepted the adaptation, others cringed with that expectation that the high latency values that are inherent with DDR2 memory would have a very negative impact on performance. While these high latency values are standardized by the Joint Electron Devices Engineering Councils (JEDEC) to protect consumers against the many issues that surround motherboard/memory compatibility, many vendors are using the simple foundations of Overclocking to alter and enhance their memory's performance.

Just about every manufacturer of enthusiast grade memory produce a line-up of product that is marketed and shipped as an overclocked component and Super Talent is no exception. Through rigorous testing and in-house certification,  they are applying the concepts that we as Overclockers have known for years -- an increase in voltage can usually help squeeze more Megahertz out of a component. Sure, bus speed alone isn't the only factor in memory overclocking, but it is a selling point. For instance;  presuming that the goal of Joe Overclocker is to run the CPU and memory bus with AT LEAST a 1:1 ratio with the CPU front side bus at 400 Mhz, then it stands to reason that the search with start with DDR2-800 at a minimum. The next set of stats that should be looked at would be the CAS latency timings, as these timings have a direct impact on performance. A general rule of thumb, the higher the CAS latency goes, the lower the data throughput becomes.

Super Talent has used their 20 years of memory manufacturing experience to vend this dual channel kit they have tagged as T800UX2GC4. Developed for Overclockers, the kit is PC-6400/DDR2-800 based on two 128M x 64 modules of non-ECC memory. While the SPD timings are very bland at 5-5-5-15, the kit has been tested, certified, and backed with a lifetime warranty to operate at 4-4-3-8 once the Vdimm oltage is set to 2.2 volts.
